The new Flexible AI recognizer is NOT enabled automatically.
To try it:
Settings → Sounds → Recognizer Mode → Flexible AI
The legacy recognizer remains the default option after updating.
 

 

 


 

💡 VOICE TIPS:

  • Use a quiet environment.
  • Set your correct default microphone in Windows.
  • Avoid multiple active input devices.
  • Follow the command structure shown in-game.


 

 

VOICE RECOGNITION SET UP

As your first step, please take the speech test within the game. It will tell you right away, if you have any issues with your current set up, microphone. Eventually, we will also ask the result of this test when you reach out to us for support. 

Further on, you may complete the following troubleshooting steps. If you make any changes, please always remember to restart PC / Windows fully, before starting a new game!

  1. Reinstall the Windows speech components

Go to:
Windows Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region

For the language you use for speech (US or UK English):

  • Make sure Speech is installed
  • Make sure Text‑to‑speech is installed
  • Make sure Language pack is fully installed (advanced also)

 

  1. Set the correct speech language

In:
Settings → Time & Language → Speech

  • Set the Speech language to the same English variant you use in‑game
  • Turn Recognize non‑native accents ON (could help for different accents)

 

  1. Check Windows microphone privacy

Settings → Privacy → Microphone

Make sure:

  • Microphone access is ON (Tower application has access to the Mic you’re using in the game)
  • Desktop apps are allowed to use it

 

4. Run Windows Speech Training (very important after a reset, but might not be available for all)

Search in Windows for:
“Train your computer to better understand you”

If the issue remains after these steps, please send us:

  • Your selected in‑game speech language
  • A screenshot of the in‑game speech test result and we’ll gladly take a closer look.

 

Microphone Not Working / No Input Detected

If your microphone input level appears to be at 0, it is likely being overridden by another application or not properly set as the default device in Windows.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Check your microphone setup
    • Make sure your microphone is properly connected.
    • If possible, try a different microphone to rule out hardware issues.
  2. Set your headset as the default device
    • Go to Windows sound settings.
    • Under Output, select your headset
    • Set it as Default Device.
    • Then select “Also use as default for communications.”
  3. This ensures the headset is properly recognized for both audio output and microphone input.
  4. Adjust devices if needed
    • After setting the headset, you can switch your output back to speakers if preferred, while still using the headset microphone.
  5. Check for conflicts
    • Close any other applications that may be controlling or overriding microphone input.
  6. Reinstall as a last step
    • If the issue persists, try reinstalling the game.

Adjust in-game frequency settings

  • Open the game settings
  • Try changing the speech recognition frequency

Some users have reported improved voice recognition after adjusting this setting.

💡 Note:
This is typically not a game issue, but rather a Windows audio configuration problem. Many cases are resolved by correctly setting the default audio and communication devices. 

Microphone Issues Related to Permissions

If your microphone suddenly stops working, it may be related to drive or permission settings.

  1. Check drive permissions
    • Right-click your drive (e.g., D:)
    • Select Properties → Security
    • Ensure your user account has all permissions set to Allow
  2. Even if you are the administrator, some drives or folders may have restricted access that can interfere with proper functionality.

💡 Note:
Permission restrictions or system-level settings can sometimes affect microphone behavior, even if everything appears correctly configured.

 

 

Voice Recognition Not Working After Update

If voice recognition stopped working after an update, please check your Windows settings:

  1. Verify your default microphone
    • Go to Settings → Sound
    • Make sure your correct microphone is still set as the default input device
  2. Disable Online Speech Recognition
    • Go to Settings → Time & Language → Speech
    • Ensure Online speech recognition is turned OFF
  3. Turn off voice activation
    • Go to Settings → Privacy → Microphone
    • Disable any voice activation options that may interfere
  4. Disable microphone enhancements
    • Open Control Panel → Sound
    • Select your Microphone → Properties → Custom
    • Make sure all effects/enhancements are turned OFF

Windows updates or hardware changes (such as new headsets or audio drivers) can sometimes reset or alter these settings, which may interfere with in‑game voice recognition.
